Steve Brown

I owned and showed quarter horses as a teenager. I trained and showed my own horses and supported the hobby by boarding and working other people’s horses.  I boarded a giant, narrow, high headed Tennessee Walker named General and the owners became busy and asked me to work their horse.  General put his head clean up by your face and did a swingy, ground-covering gait.  He had a ton of spirit and I enjoyed riding him. When I graduated from high school I sold the horses and went to college to become a teacher.  I missed riding terribly and decided I would take a job in the country somewhere and get back into horses just as fast as I could.  When I got my first teaching job I was fortunate to find a racehorse breeding farm close by where I could work off some of the rent by exercising horses. I had to have my own horses and decided to get Tennessee Walkers. I bought a sixty-acre farm and began to accumulate horses.  I loved the territory in eastern Washington and enjoyed riding the highlands.  I acquired two stallions and 19 mares.  In no time I was showing again.  I eventually decided to move back to the west side of the mountains to avoid the long haul to the shows.  This meant selling off most of the horses and just taking a few with me.  I raised, trained and showed my horses for thirty years and I have enjoyed showing in every division.  I have served as a DQP for the NHSC as well as a judge, and have judged shows all over North America and Europe.  I also often announce, manage and secretary horse shows.  I have served as President of the Western International Walking Horse Association and currently serve as President of the Tennessee Walking Horse Foundation in addition to being a TWHBEA director and Vice President of Owners/ Exhibitors/ International Division.
