Nashville Resident Jane Eakes Accepts Award From TWHBEA
Lewisburg, TN - Nashville resident and longtime Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast Jane Eakes was presented the 2010 Reese L. Smith, Jr., Distinguished Service Award by the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' and Exhibitors' Association (TWHBEA). Outgoing TWHBEA President David Pruett at the association's annual awards banquet held December 3rd in Lewisburg, Tennessee made the presentation.
The Reese L. Smith Distinguished Service Award was created to honor the memory of Mr. Smith, a long-time Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast and philanthropist of the industry.
Mr. Smith's immeasurable service to the walking horse breed and specifically the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' and Exhibitors' Association was always above and beyond the call of duty. This award is presented by TWHBEA to an individual who best exemplifies the same dedication, commitment, and personal involvement of Reese L. Smith, Jr.
Mrs. Eakes has a long history of service to the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. She is the matriarch of a true Tennessee Walking Horse family and she has done her utmost to ensure not just the survival, but also the ongoing prosperity of the Tennessee Walking Horse show horse.
She was the treasurer for Friends of the Show Horse and later served on the board and as treasurer for the Show Horse Support Fund. Additionally, she and her family were contributors to both of these endeavors. As treasurer for both of these worthy organizations, our honoree kept the books, attended all meetings, prepared audits and filed all of the paperwork necessary for non-profit status and she did all of this absolutely free of charge. As one associate has said, “She did all the things that most people don't want to do. She was the brains behind the brawn.”
